Volkswagen to Reintroduce Phaeton Flagship Following Simplistic Formula

Reportedly, a Volkswagen Phaeton-type vehicle is due to make a return as a 2015 or 2016 model as suggested by MotorTrend with a possible USA inclusion. According to Autoblog, the new Phaeton may share its platform with the Bentley Continental Flying Spur. Yup, that means you can be pimping in a low-cost Bentley, with a VW badge, that still offers true luxury and ample amounts of interior space.

I actually remember the last time I saw a VW Phaeton on the road. It was about 9 months ago. I am not blatantly trying to be sarcastic here, but let’s just face the music and realize that the Phaeton only had a small following. Sure, we all liked the idea of a low-cost Audi A8 and would not hesitate the opportunity to test drive one. Moreover, the execution was great and the numbers were somewhat decent on paper for Volkswagen’s flagship luxury car muddled out of the Audi A8’s image. The Phaeton was just missing an ingredient that we could not place our hands on at the time aside from shear performance.

2011 Volkswagen Tiguan Review

The 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that produces 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. All trim levels come standard with front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is optional on the SE and SEL. A six-speed manual is standard on the Tiguan S, while a six-speed automatic is optional on the S and standard on the SE and SEL.

In Edmunds performance testing, an all-wheel-drive SEL accelerated from a standstill to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds, which is about average for other crossovers in this class. Its EPA-estimated fuel economy is again average at 20 mpg city/25 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined for both the front- and all-wheel-drive models with the automatic, while the S trim’s standard manual is essentially the same at 19/26/22.

First Drive 2014 Volkswagen Golf Blue-E-Motion

We recently had the opportunity Volkswagen Volkswagen Golf Blue Motion Drive in e-visibility home town of Wolfsburg, and we can say that it is very likely the best cars and the best affordable electric driving. But we are not convinced, even disappointing.

To explain this apparent paradox, let’s start with fifty backgrounder on the state of the race electric car.  As you may have heard, Nissan and General Motors ramping production of (relatively) cheap and (relatively) electric vehicles practical. Suddenly, every automaker is not mass-produced electric vehicle is behind the technology curve – or at least perceived as such. This also applies to the mighty Volkswagen Group. Of course, the world’s fastest production car and some of these concepts appear very attractive in a green sports car Porsche 918 Spyder, and the High E to build Tron. But it can and will produce Nissan Leaf Rivals? Read more…

2011 Volkswagen Touareg TDI Short Test

2011 Volkswagen Touareg TDI

Volkswagen has not always been known for intelligent product design look at the Passat W8, or better, the Phaeton, but the new 2011 Volkswagen Touareg TDI looks like a triumphant symphony in three strategic SUV: regular gas engine, hybrid and diesel.

The hybrid is the new star of the lineup for several reasons: serious go-power, eye-effect technology and the ability to turn off its gas engine at speeds up to 99 kilometers per hour, making it attractive to those who regard the electric and hybrid as a solution. But if you do not mind an extra flash to 60 km / h, 6.9 seconds for the hybrid and 5.9 you do not mind saving a nice piece of dough in the process, then the diesel is the alt-fuel Touareg for you. It has an impressive fuel consumption of 2.5-ton SUV standards and tidal torque. Plus, you’ll never spend a nickel on spark plugs. Read more…

Volkswagen New Compact Coupe Concept

Are you ready for the year of the Volkswagen? The German giant is planning to release more cars in 2010 that it has in any single year in its history, and it’ll start things off with a bang in Detroit. Meet the Volkswagen New Compact Coupe Concept, the latest in a new trend of sporty hybrids.

Sporty hybrids? Indeed. The trade-off for stellar fuel economy has long been lackluster performance and a boring drive, but today’s automakers are looking to change that inequity. Not to be upstaged by Honda‘s new CR-Z hybrid, Volkswagen has unwrapped its own sport-oriented hybrid coupe, called the NCC for short.

Volkswagen says the NCC is meant to slot between Europe’s sporty Scirocco and the larger CC, a position currently held by the Jetta. At 178.5 in. long, 70.1 in. wide, 55.6 in. tall, and riding on a 104.4-in. wheelbase, the NCC is within 3 inches or less of the Jetta in every dimension. It has a stretched wheelbase, identical width, and lower roof. Is this the next-generation Jetta coupe Volkswagen enthusiasts have pined after? Perhaps.
