2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS Review & Test Drive

The all-new, totally redesigned, 2011 Hyundai Elantra now takes its proper placement just below the new Sonata when it comes to size. Entering into its fifth-generation, the new 2011 Elantra gets its styling cues directly from the bigger Sonata, which is not a bad thing at all considering how well perceived the Sonata is.

When it comes to vehicles going up against the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Ford Focus and new Chevy Cruze, they better bring their A-game. Hyundai has nothing to worry about because that is just what they did; they brought out unique styling, and decent performance with superb gas mileage all wrapped up in a trusted economic package. Hyundai Curb Concept First Look

Over-stimulation seems to be the name of the game with the restriction Hyundai concept at Detroit Auto Show 2011. Restriction could showcases all the style and technique of the Korean car manufacturer makings of a vehicle, as it seems. It is Hyundai trying to distract the attention of the easily-city apartments, college graduates to start young.

Hyundai is restricted because of the same size as the Kia Soul, youth group transfer. Designer Hyundai Jason Brown said that “we’re tough to urban without looking like a truck Brink’s. Wanted to go beyond City, on the Trail Rubicon, but we wanted to armor urban daily driving on have streets. necessary to enable their passengers in that seat. “What is that side with this type of vehicle to drive? We need more greenhouses, not less, while urban vehicles to see the drivers too easy with two other cars and pedestrians. End the tired urban armor on, please. How many years have we heard the bromide car designer? Too much. Hybrid Cars: 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Sedan review

That great looking, award winning, hot selling mid-size sedan you see turning heads is one of two versions the 2011 Hyundai Sonata duo: the 2.4-liter gasoline direct injection model or the Sonata turbo for those who like to add a little pepper in their driving. And now there’s a third Sonata — the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid – which completes the trio.

PHOTO (select to view enlarged photo)

The Sonata Hybrid is the car for those who want to combine great design, amazing mileage in a vehicle that is environmentally and ecologically desirable. With an EPA rating of 35-mpg city, 40-mpg highway the Sonata Hybrid achieves a new level of highway fuel economy for a mid-size sedan. The company has said, “This is consistent with North American driving habits which average more than 50% of their driving mileage on highways.”

PHOTO (select to view enlarged photo)

Sonata Hybrid’s fuel economy is powered by the industry’s first application of third-generation lithium polymer batteries which are more space efficient, lighter weight and offer higher energy density than existing nickel-metal hydride and pending lithium-ion applications. I’ve held the new battery which is about the size of a #10 business envelope that’s filled with a few pages of junk mail and was amazed by its small size and the fact that only 72 of these batteries are used in the Sonata Hybrid. Second Drive: 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T

Here in the U.S., the mid-size sedan market is thought to be all but impregnable to newcomers. Ruled for decades by models that have become icons of the industry, the segment has enjoyed a long and peaceful reign by the likes of the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. But the funny thing about success is that if you’re not very, very careful, it breeds complacency. While the titans of the four-door kingdom have been sleeping on beds of cash made on the innovations of two decades ago, Hyundai has been busily polishing its reputation and pouring over $550 million into fresh research and development for new and advanced drivetrains for its 2011 Hyundai Sonata.

One of the long accepted tenants of the mid-size sedan is “Thou Shalt Have a Six-Cylinder Option.” Ironically enough, this mode of thought arose as a challenge to the previously held belief that if you wanted to move four-doors in America, you had to offer a V8 under the hood. But when Japan’s Big Three proved they could dish out V8 horsepower with six-cylinder fuel economy, the eight-cylinder family hauler all but disappeared from the scene. Now, Hyundai is out to repeat history by debuting a turbocharged four-cylinder designed to rattle the cages of Toyota, Honda and Nissan.

Review: 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS

If you’ve been keeping up with Autoblog lately, we’ve had a lot to say about the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. We’ve tested the top-rung SE and Limited trims out in California. We’ve even had the chance to sample the upcoming Sonata Hybrid and Turbo versions in the automaker’s homeland. But when you get down to brass tacks, the majority of dealership transactions will be made up of the volume GLS model. Sure, a loaded-up $28,000 Sonata Limited is one heck of a nice car, but since 50 percent of all 2011 models sold to date have been fitted to GLS spec, it’s important for us to see if Hyundai’s swoopy new sedan is worthy of such high praise even without the extra gee-whiz goodies.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid looks to split the uprights

Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid hails from a nation where Buddhism is one of the dominant religions. After all, this slippery sedan’s design is the gas-electric’s equivalent of The Middle Path – a road that the company hopes is truly the way to automotive enlightenment.
