Lamborghini Aventador Roadster To Wear Targa Roof: Report

The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. Image: Lamborghini

If you were hoping the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster would pack a slick, power-retractable hardtop like Ferrari’s 458 Italia, it appears you’re out of luck. If reports from Italy’s Quattroroute are correct, the topless Aventador will come to market with a removable targa roof, similar to that used by Bugatti on the Veyron Grand Sport.

The Aventador Roadster’s top panels will be made from carbon fiber or carbon composite, and will be split in the middle for easy removal or deployment. That may make them small enough to carry on board the Aventador, eliminating the need to decide on topless motoring before leaving the garage (like the Veyron Grand Sport, whose roof can’t be stored on board the car).

As for the “why,” the answer is relatively simple: adding any kind of folding top, whether manual or powered, would add more weight and would require redesign of the Aventador’s intricate engine cover. Not only is such a redesign cost-prohibitive, but it also would added significantly to the car’s development time.

Assuming, of course, that the car actually exists. Lamborghini is neither confirming nor denying a topless Aventador, which means we’ll have to wait until the international auto show schedule resumes this fall before any official announcements are made.

J.F. Musial Meets Lamborghini’s Valentino Balboni: Video

If you’re a fan of Lamborghini, you know the name Valentino Balboni. Best known as Lamborghini’s test driver, Balboni’s history with the company dates back to 1968 and a chance meeting with Ferruccio Lamborghini himself. The story is best told in Balboni’s own words, but here’s the two minute drill: in today’s process-obsessed world, there can never be another Valentino Balboni.

Balboni was trained by Lamborghini to become a test driver, and had no prior racing background. Instead, Balboni had a passion for cars, and learned early on to “listen” to what a car was trying to communicate. That’s easily lost with today’s technology-filled supercars, but in the early 1970s “listening” to cars like the Lamborghini Muira or Countach was an important part of self-preservation.

While we’d have liked to see more time with Balboni and less time with Musial touring the Italian countryside in a Gallardo Spyder, the video is worth watching. We’re not the fashion police, but we’ll still offer some free advice to Musial: when you’re going to meet one of the automotive world’s iconic figures, wearing a hoodie over a t-shirt is a bit inappropriate. Next time, buck up for a polo shirt, OK?

Official Lamborghini Urus SUV Images Leak Onto The Web

From all of the previous circulating rumors of Lamborghini birthing a new SUV, it was only a matter of time that we would get a glimpse at official images from the Italian Bull maker. After-all, the internet waits for no one.

What is to be called the Urus, is Lamborghini’s newest vehicle added to the lineup and very first SUV. For obvious reasons, the Lamborghini Urus will compete head-to-head with the likings of the Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, BMW X5M/X6M, Bentley’s upcoming SUV and any other premium brand sport-utes to hit the market.

Powering the new Lamborghini Urus SUV will be the company’s well-endowed 5.2-liter V10 engine producing 584 horsepower for the riding-high Bull. Additional details are expected to be released when Lamborghini officially unveils the Urus at the Beijing Motor Show. For now, enjoy the leaked official images of the Lamborghini Urus SUV below. Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore Defines Good Taste

When Italian supercar builders release a special edition version of their product, “tasteful” isn’t usually the first word that comes to my mind. Most have garish paint schemes and vinyl decals that look like they were razor cut by a baboon. Wearing a blindfold. Worse, most have giant wings and more carbon fiber than an F1 starting grid. That’s why Lamborghini’s Gallardo Tricolore, built to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Italian reunification, is so stunning. If anything, it’s even more subdued than a regular Gallardo, with the single distinguishing feature being the Italian flag stripe that runs down the car and through the interior. It’s definitely a case of “less is more” when it comes to style. Read more…

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 SV to Debut in 2010 Geneva Motor Show

Rumors are spreading that Lambo will debut a new version of the LP560-4 next year in Geneva. The Lamborghini LP570-4 Super Veloce would have stronger performance figures and some different design features.

While a 10-horsepower boost may not seem worthy of all the hype on its own, a large drop in weight would justify quite a bit of attention. It is important to note that the Gallardo Superleggera, also introduced in Geneva, featured a similar power increase and weighed 100 kilograms (220.5 lbs) less than the Gallardo.

Expected to show on the new model are new front and rear spoilers, re-tuned suspension, and carbon ceramic brakes.

Edo Competition creates the Lamborghini Gallardo LP600/4

Edo Competition is no stranger to modifying Lamborghinis. Its unique touch has graced the Gallardo Superleggera and Murcielago LP640, along with a limited edition Christian Audigier edition Murcielago, among others.

Now the German tuner has taken the Lamborghinis Gallardo LP560-4 and given it what it likes to call a little “added spice”. The output of the Italian supercar has been bumped to an even 600 horsepower thanks to a new stainless steel exhaust system and an ECU tune, resulting in a claimed top speed of 211 mph. Other upgrades include an adjustable sport suspension system, 19-inch three-piece wheels, and a new front spoiler lip.

Wheelsandmore Lamborghini Gallardo LP620

Here’s another variation on the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4. This one, called the YarroW, is from German tuner Wheelsandmore.

First up, power on this Lambo is amped up to 620 hp and 580 lb-ft of torque (785 Nm). Wheelsandmore achieves this increase by means of ECU tampering, a carbon airbox and a stainless steel exhaust system with valve control.

The YarroW also comes with a beefed-up brake system to match those extra horses. 8-piston calipers are fitted at the front and 6-piston ones for the rear wheels, with 14.96 and 14.17-inch discs at front and back, respectively.

20-inch wheels are also part of the tuning kit, wrapped in 235/30/20 Dunlop Sport Maxx tires at the front (for the 8.5 x 20″ rims) and 305/25/20 at the back (11.5 x 20″). The 3-piece forged rims are lightweight and come in various color and surface configurations.
